Hope you’re off to a great 2009 (all things considered). I wanted to let everyone know about the great events/meetings we have scheduled for February and March.
1. February 25, 2009, 7:00PM at Mahlon Adams Pavilion in Freedom Park
Meet the first (of two!) Sierra Club Staff people recently hired in Charlotte. Beth Clark has been recently named the Cool Cities Campaign Representative, and I believe she is the first person with this Sierra Club position anywhere in the nation, as Charlotte will be the Sierra Club pilot site for really ramping up our efforts to reduce Greenhouse Gases in our cities and towns.
On Wednesday evening the 25th, Beth will let us know more about the Cool Cities campaign nationally, give us an update on what’s going on locally and seek input from you as she gets underway. Don’t miss it!
2. March 13-15th, 2009 at Myers Park Baptist Church
For March we plan to forego our normally meeting for a chance to really promote and drive attendance to three wonderful days at Myers Park Baptist Church with Dr David Orr, Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College.
Friday, March 13, 7:00PM: “The Eleventh Hour” Film
Saturday, March 14, 9:00 – 11:00 AM: “The Environment and Politics in a Time of Hope” public lecture
Sunday, March 15, 9:45AM-10:45AM, “The Hour Before Dawn: Challenges, Courage, Faith and Hope” public lecture
All three of these terrific events are free and open to the public. Please call Rick Goodin at 704.334.7232 (Extension 15) for more information
3. March 21, 2009 Volunteer Event at James Martin Middle School
Details for this volunteer event are still lacking, but we wanted to go ahead and get the date on your calendar. We’ll have more details very soon!
