Mecklenburg County Air Quality is a “certified local air pollution program” acting as the State throughout Mecklenburg County, including incorporated areas. Our mission is to lead and assist Mecklenburg County towards meeting and maintaining compliance with the health based National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Mecklenburg Air Quality Commission
The Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) established the Mecklenburg County Air Quality Commission (AQC) on October 15, 2002, with the mission and duty to promote the protection, preservation, and enhancement of the ambient air resources of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The purpose of the AQC shall be to provide citizen and stakeholder input to the BOCC, local municipalities and staff through the review and recommendations of air pollution management policies, long range plans, operations and their budgetary impacts in order to achieve this mission.

For over seven years, Clean Air Carolina (formerly Carolinas Clean Air Coalition) has been the primary organization in the Charlotte region working for your health by focusing all our efforts on achieving the cleanest, most breathable air possible. Our mission is to ensure cleaner air quality for all of us by educating the community about how air quality affects our health, advocating for stronger clean air policies, and partnering with other organizations committed to cleaner air and sustainable practices. We are based in Charlotte and maintain a regional and statewide influence.
