There is only one thing bigger than Donald Trump’s ego: the size of the climate lies he’s been spreading on social media about this winter’s freezing temperatures:
Who do we want our friends — and the media — to listen to: 99% of the world’s climate scientists? Or Donald Trump?
I wish I could shrug my shoulders and say “The Donald” doesn’t matter — but with 2.4 million Twitter followers, a hit network TV show, and a potential presidential run, the right-wing billionaire has a lot of influence. People listen to what he says — so it’s up to us to hold him accountable.
The science here is pretty basic — warmer average temperatures mean fluctuations in local weather patterns. [1,2,3,4] In fact, even as the polar vortex hit the U.S., Australia and Alaska experienced record warm temperatures. If Donald Trump’s going to deny the basic facts of climate disruption, then it’s time for us to use his own words against him and tell him: “You’re fired.”
In the coming days, we’ll be in touch with everyone who signs so we can keep using social media to pressure Trump — and all the other climate deniers — to get it straight on climate change.
In it together,
