* Jan 23: Will Growth Ruin Charlotte: Regional Growth vs. Sustainability – Choices for the Future

Charlotte Night Skyline

Did you know that the greater Charlotte region surrounding Mecklenburg County is projected to double in population within the next 30 or so years? YIKES! This growth will place ENORMOUS strains on natural resources, wildlife, open space, and the quality of life that we enjoy. The Centralina Council of Governments (CCOG) has received a $4.9 million grant from HUD to engage in a process that will, hopefully, make this growth manageable and acceptable to those that reside there.

On Jan 23rd we will have a panel of speakers who will offer perspectives on CCOG’s planning process, sustainability, and issues of business growth. The speakers are Jim Prosser, Exec Director of CCOG, Shannon Binns, Exec Director of Sustain Charlotte, and Ron Morgan, Director of 100gardens.org.

Join us at 6:30 for pizza and socializing…the meeting will officially begin at 7pm. Mahlon Adams Pavilion is at Freedom Park, 2435 Cumberland Ave., Charlotte, NC, 28203. The program is free and open to the public and you do not have to be a member to attend. Free parking is available.

Bring a friend or two; you’ll be glad you did!
