July 28th – A Sierra Club Meeting You Won’t Want To Miss

“The Hidden Costs of Burning Our Trash”

Mark you calendar, tell your neighbors, and plan to bring a friend or two for our monthly meeting this coming Wednesday, July 28th. We’ll kick off the meeting with pizza and refreshments beginning at 6:30 PM.

Our meeting and program will begin at 7:00 PM and we’ll hear updates on the Outings Program, the Inner City Outings Program for youth, an update on new NC environmental issues and we’ll talk about some new ideas and programs.

Our meeting program is a hot one! Mecklenburg County is considering paying ReVenture to burn our municipal solid waste and compostable yard waste in a new incinerator as part of the ReVenture development on the Catawba River. We already have one incinerator in Mecklenburg County – the BMWNC Medial Waste Incinerator. As a non-attainment Air Quality region, do we really need another incinerator? You can’t afford to miss this program, “The Hidden Costs of Burning Our Trash”, with Shannon Binns, Executive Director of SustainCharlotte.

The program is free and open to the public and will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the issues related to incineration, adopting a Zero Waste policy and the new “Incinerator Free Mecklenburg” campaign.

The meeting will be held at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion at Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC. To help us with the pizza order, please RSVP to Erica Geppi at erica.geppi@sierraclub.org or call (704) 343-0047.

See you there!
